Canada

Canada Canada is in North America and around the way extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific, is composed of ten provinces and three territories. To the north is the Arctic Ocean, in Davis Strait separates north-east of Greenland, to the east is the Atlantic Ocean, south of the borders of the United States of America and the west by the Pacific Ocean and Alaska. A country of outstanding natural beauty, Canada has a great variety of landscapes, mountains, grasslands, lakes and rivers with many national and provincial parks to protect habitat. With a total area of 9,984,670 square kilometers (3,855,103 square kilometers), Canada is the second largest country in the world. There are more lakes and inland waters in Canada than any other country, in fact 7.6% or 755,180 square kilometers (291,577 square meters) consists of fresh water. Most images of Canada refer to the Mounties, bears, snow or the Rocky Mountains with the amazing turquoise lakes though this is actually a great landscape. Tourism is an important part of the economy with abundant natural resources quickly in Canada a rich and vibrant country that has an ad on the top of the best places to live. Stations? winters are cold with heavy snowfall and warm summers, the best way to survive is to make the nature of most of the offers. Skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling are popular pastimes and great exercise and fun. In summer, hiking, camping and exploring the outdoors are fantastic ways to spend their free time. This is especially true when you are among the most breathtaking and fabulous scenery the world has to offer! The currency is the Canadian dollar. It consists of 100 cents cents to $ 1 Canadian. There are 1 cent, usually called a cent, 5 cent, usually called Nickel, 10 euro cents a coin call, called the quarter of 25 cents, $ 1 coin called the Loonie and two dollar coins called U.S. twoonie. The notes or bills are $ 5, $ 10, $ 20, $ 50 and $ 100 denominations. The Canadian dollar traditionally trades at a lower value than its American counterpart, but now is approaching parity. All motor vehicles are driven on the right side of the road and the steering wheel to the left. Each province or territory is responsible for conducting its own laws and regulations in each of them has a different system. Demographics Canada has a population of 30,007,094 (2001 census), compared to 28,846,761 (census 1996) showing an increase of 4%. Most of the population lives in cities and most of these are located in the south, about three quarters of the population lives within 300 km of border with the United States. The most populated provinces are Ontario and Quebec with Toronto (Ontario) is the most populous city. There are two official languages - English and French - in Quebec and Montreal is the world's largest French speaking city outside France. All services provided by the federal govement is in English and French. Almost every product you buy is in English and French on the labels and most public services are available in both languages. Outside of Quebec, most people who speak English, about 18 percent of Canadians are fluently bilingual. First Nations or indigenous peoples were the original inhabitants of Canada and the name derives from their language and means "village" or "Community." The Vikings, who arrived in the 11 century and not remain long, were the first Europeans to land in Canada. More Europeans arrived in the 16th century, bringing with them products that are exchanged for furs and native products - were made welcome by the indigenous peoples. The two main groups of European settlers were the French, who arrived first, and then English. France, despite the loss of part of its territory for Great Britain in a war in 1760, many of the French left. In 1867, three colonies of Britain merged in an event called Confederation, which created an independent state in the four provinces. More than six provinces and three territories were added in 1931 and achieved full independence. Canada still belongs to the Commonwealth of Nations. Canada is a Democratic Federation and is one of the federal and provincial govements. The responsibilities and powers are divided between the federal and provincial govements for a political system (see for details).] Education Education is the responsibility of each Provincial Govement (please refer to our province for more information) and is paid through taxes. Education is free and all children are required by law to attend school from age 6 until they are 15 or 16, most students until they are 18 and graduating high school with a diploma in school top. The main languages of instruction are English and French. Canada of the health care system is an essential element of public health, medical treatment is available to all Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Although health care systems are directed by the Provincial Ministries of Health, the federal govement sets standards for health care across the country. There are three provinces that charge healthcare premiums (BC, Alberta and Ontario). In other provinces and territories for health care is paid through taxes. In some provinces there is a waiting period of three months before qualifying for health care (see for details) so be sure to have insurance that covers medical expenses during this period.
